Company to enhance the context-based service with cell-based location detection
PHOCUSWRIGHT CONFERENCE, LOS ANGELES (November 17, 2008) — WorldMate, Inc., the industry leader in mobile travel services with over 1.5 million active customers worldwide, today releases very favorable results from the hotel booking service it launched within WorldMate Live™ for BlackBerry two months ago:
- People spanning the globe, representing 23 countries from 6 continents, have already used the service
- Hotels have been booked in 34 countries on 6 continents
- 50 percent of bookings are made within 24 hours of check-in, prompted by WorldMate Live’s recommendation engine, which detects when members do not have a hotel in an itinerary and suggests suitable options
- 33 percent of bookings are made on the day of arrival, capturing a meaningful share of “walk-in” business
WorldMate Live serves as a personal travel companion that allows frequent travelers to manage their entire itinerary - flights, hotels, meetings and ground transportation - all within a single service, accessible any time from a mobile device or computer.
WorldMate partners with hotels.com®, an Expedia, Inc. company, to enable people using WorldMate Live to book hotel accommodations directly and securely on their smartphones. The service is the first of its kind to consider the precise location of travelers’ itinerary items as well as their personal preferences in customizing a list of hotel options that best meet their needs.
To further support the overwhelming demand for last-minute reservations, WorldMate today also announces the upcoming introduction of cell-based location technology into its hotel booking service. With a single click of a button, WorldMate Live members will now be able to find the ideal hotel nearby, as the service automatically considers both their approximate location and personal preferences. The new ‘Find A Hotel Near Me’ feature will allow travelers to focus their time and energy on other pressing matters, such as catching a flight or preparing for an upcoming meeting.
“WorldMate’s hotel booking service serves an audience that was previously ignored by digital channels,” said Nadav Gur, CEO of WorldMate. “Because frequent travelers are increasingly relying on their mobile phones to stay connected, WorldMate offers a unique opportunity to travel distributors to extend their reach and inventory to these always-on devices.”
Gur added, “WorldMate understands that convenience and flexibility are paramount when you’re on-the-go. We will continue to use available technologies like cell-ID location and GPS throughout our service to deliver time-critical, location-based services to our members, in some cases without even requiring them to click a button.”
The majority of WorldMate Live’s personalized travel planning and management services are available for free. Premium services, such as real-time flight alerts, flight status and flight schedules are available for a yearly or monthly subscription.
